SAE Class Rating Guide

Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)

SAE class ratings are pivotal in defining the intensity and application of warning lights. At Signal Sentry, all our products proudly meet the highest standard with SAE Class 1 certification, ensuring the most intense visibility. This class is 4 times more intense than Class 2 and 10 times that of Class 3, making it ideal for high-speed emergency vehicles and critical safety scenarios. Class 2 lights, suitable for slower vehicles, have candela values up to 8099 cd-s/m. On the other hand, Class 3 lights, the least intense, are perfectly suited for indoor use and specialized machinery, providing essential visibility without overwhelming in low-light environments.

THE BRIGHTEST FOR EMERGENCY

Class 1

Class 1 warning lights are the brightest among the three. They are primarily reserved for emergency vehicles, road work/traffic control or others that need to command attention, warn of emergencies, or operate sites on busy roads. ALL Signal Sentry's products meet these rigorous Class 1 standards, ensuring optimal visibility and superior daytime performance.

Signal Sentry is a PROUD PROMIENT Class 1 Australian Retailer.

VERSATILE UTILITY

Class 2

Class 2 warning lights are designed for utility vehicles that may operate both on-road and off-road. They provide a significant level of visibility and are ideal for vehicles that require noticeable movement notification without the intensity of Class 1 lights.

IDENTIFICATION IN LOW TRAFFIC AREAS

Class 3

The least bright, Class 3 warning lights, are mainly for vehicle identification. These are typically found on forklifts or industrial trucks in areas with lower traffic but where identification is still necessary, like job sites or warehouses.
